Edu Portillo
I was born in the city of Santa Ana, El Salvador in 1986 and moved to the United States in 2003.
I am actually working on getting my BFA in Painting at the well renown University of Houston School of Art.
I am very conceptual, graphic and mixed media Artist. I have developed my work through a very wide study of my surroundings here in the City of Houston. My art goes from painting, sculpture, photography, installations and performance arts. The main idea of my work has followed the interest on urban elements like traffic signals, buildings, etc. Lately this came into a whole body of work adding humans aspects to the work by using clowns abstractions. Along with all this, interaction on my art work has become a very important part of my work. My sculptures are huge puppets that are impossible to miss. My puppets are as colorful as my paintings and my installations are interactive as my puppets.
Many of art that has influence my work comes from Pop Art, European concepts of art like those of Michel Majerus, graffiti Art and my Latin Americans roots.
If after reading short bio, you see a clown on the street, either a puppet or a real one, you may know now have a better idea of who is behind this.
