Raul Gonzalez

Houston-based artist, Raul Gonzalez takes themes of social problem as well as components of popular culture such as fashion, music and politics...and makes them all connect.  His illustrations and paintings tell stories of our modern landscape.  He believes construction and street scenes represent the American dream.  People are still taking strides to improve their life, regardless of adversity and hardship.  He believes that the people working in the streets are role models in a society where enthusiasm sometimes feels lost.

The series shown is part of the series "Hope Works", which takes urban landscapes and scenes as the subject matter.  The purpose of this series to reconnect with everyday street scenes and to appreciate the work ethic of all men and women working in the streets.  This series includes public art projects which take the signs of "Hope Still Ahead" and "Work Harder" out into street to remind people that idea of Hope is within each and every individual.

Raul's work also includes two distinct series of abstract work and music scenes from the Houston area.  His abstract work combines pieces of modern fashion, music scenes and geometric images into colorful "windows" that seem to be endless.  His music series captures images of music venues across the city of Houston and the state of Texas.

Raul graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and received Magna Cum Laude Honors.  He plans on attending graduate school in the Fall of 2011.
